Ninside Log #008: A Lead

JETMODE: * Several days after the unusually exciting council session, Kain and Luke make their way back to Kamaria, both arriving at Glenn's in-town estate to make their report. They amble in the front door without ceremony, walking rapidly toward Glenn's parlor. Luke carries a couple of letters in his hand, just brought in from the look of things, and he occasionally waves them around as he speaks.

TIAMAT: * Just as the boys are about to enter the parlor, a small, slim figure slips out the door -- it's Tai, having just delivered a report of her own to the senator. She stops short, backpedaling a step or two quickly to keep from running into either of the elves. "Oh--! Kain! Luke!" Her face splits into a grin when she recognizes them. "Welcome home! How was your trip?"

JETMODE: "Long," Kain grunts, giving a long stretch and yawning. "I just want to give this report and go home." Luke grins faintly, shaking his head. "Much as I hate to agree with him ... ah." He pauses, flipping one of the envelopes over to Tai with eyebrow arched. "You have a letter, miss Tai. Did you tell your family in Neenah where you were staying?"

TIAMAT: * Tai looks at the letter curiously as she takes it. "I wrote to them briefly, to tell them I had gotten to Kamaria, but I didn't say where I was living, since I wasn't sure how long Lord Glenn would let me stay here..." She studies the envelope for a moment -- there is no return address or any other indication of who it's from -- before slitting it open.

JETMODE: * Kain ambles into the study without further conversation, pausing when Luke doesn't follow him. Luke is, in fact, watching Tai with a measure of concern. "So you have no idea who it could be?" he asks warily, eyes flicking to the contents of the envelope.

TIAMAT: * Tai doesn't seem to hear him; at least she doesn't respond immediately as she unfolds the letter and reads it quickly. Her eyes widen slightly and she blinks, then re-reads it a bit slower before glancing up at Luke with a grin. "It says there may be some information on my family -- my real family -- in the local temple's family records!"

JETMODE: "You serious?" Kain says, doubt creeping into his tone, and Luke's expression clearly betrays his own opinion. "Really? Well, that's a stroke of luck for you, isn't it ..?" He frowns, glancing to see if Glenn is in the room. "It's worth checking out, in any case," he adds, attempting to sound more encouraging.

TIAMAT: * Tai either doesn't notice or doesn't react to either of the boys' responses to her good fortune -- she seems far too excited. "I'm going to go. I'm going to go now! I'll be back soon -- tell Lord Glenn for me, will you?" Without waiting for a response, she sprints off down the hall. A moment later, Glenn's voice can be heard from within the study. "What's going on out there? Tai?" But she's already disappeared around a corner.

JETMODE: "Ah, Tai -- wait --" Luke falls silent, frowning, then turns to continue into the room, shaking his head. "She got a letter, Lord Glenn -- something about church records in town mentioning her family." Kain is still watching the corner Tai disappeared around, expression somewhat baffled. "Did you speak to anyone who might send a letter here?" Luke asks.

TIAMAT: * Glenn arches an eyebrow, sitting back in his chair. "Me? No, I haven't, though she has been spending much of her free time searching the city -- I suppose it's possible someone she's spoken with found something and passed it along to her. Was there no signature or seal of any kind?"

JETMODE: "None," Luke says, scratching his cheek. "No indication of who it was from that I saw." He shakes his head. "I doubt it has anything to do with the council, but still ..." Kain, meanwhile, has taken a seat, gaze on the door. "Geez," he mutters. "How smart is it, rushing off like that? Could be anything ..."

TIAMAT: * Glenn chuckles quietly. "There's no harm in her taking a look at whatever it is, and I'm sure she'll come back here before she goes rushing off outside the city -- she knows better than that, after the last time it happened." He watches Kain curiously for a moment, exchanging a brief look with Luke before changing the subject. "At any rate -- good to have you both back. What have you got for us?"

JETMODE: "Ah, of course." Luke straightens, and Kain gets to his feet wearily, trotting over next to him as the pair proceeds to give their report.

TIAMAT: * Meanwhile, Tai dashes straight out the door of the Greenstone mansion, then comes to an abrupt halt in the street outside. She looks down at the letter again, then glances around briefly before starting toward the city's main temple, located in the center of the town, near the council building. It doesn't take her particularly long to get there, especially considering she half-jogs most of the way there, though she nearly bumps into more than one person along the way.

JETMODE: * A young man in the clothing of the priesthood is standing at the door, and he bows in greeting, smiling at her apparent enthusiasm. "Good afternoon, miss -- is there something I can help you with?"

TIAMAT: * Tai gives a quick curtsey in return, smiling widely. "Yes -- well, I hope so. I'm searching for information on my family, and I received a letter that said the temple keeps records of some sort -- is that true?"

JETMODE: * The young man looks somewhat surprised, but he does nod. "Yes, miss, we do. Provided, of course, your family was blessed at this church ..." He hesitates, then gestures inside. "You'll find our records office down the left hall -- it's clearly marked."

TIAMAT: * Tai grins and nods politely. "Thank you very much," she chirps happily before trotting eagerly down the hall he indicated. The records office is indeed easy to find, and she pushes the door open, sticking her head inside slowly to look around. "Hello..?"

JETMODE: "Just a moment," calls a female voice from behind a large stack of papers. There's some shuffling, and then she stands, peering over the stack blankly at the new arrival. "Can I help you?" she says blankly, apparently having expected another church member.

TIAMAT: * Tai smiles and steps into the room, letting the door swing shut behind her. "Hello. I'm looking for some family records -- I was told this is the right office?" She glances around curiously; the walls are lined with volumes that are apparently separated by year, though there are plenty of loose sheafs of paper and rolled up scrolls floating around as well.

JETMODE: "Yes, this is that office -- were you looking up dead relatives?" She looks down at the papers on her desk. "Or tracing a lineage? We've had several requests for verifications lately." She looks up again questioningly. "Do you know family name?"

TIAMAT: "Tracing a lineage, I suppose.." Tai responds, then hesitates. "I'm afraid I don't have much information -- I was an orphan -- or at least I think I was -- and I'm trying to find my family."

JETMODE: "Oh," the woman responds blankly. "I ... see. I'm afraid ..." She pauses, pressing a hand briefly to her forehead. "Well -- that could make things difficult ... what information do you have?"

TIAMAT: "I know my birth date!" Tai says hopefully, looking a little anxious now. "And my first name was supposedly my name given by my real parents..." She hesitates again, then takes a step toward the desk. "I don't mean to interrupt you -- if you could just point me in the right direction, I could search on my own..."

JETMODE: * A flicker of something like horror crosses the woman's face. "Er, I'm sorry, but I'm afraid I can't let you do that -- I assure you it will be much faster if you let me look." She pushes away from the desk and toward one of the shelves, glancing at her. "Birth date and name, then? Oh, and spelling."

TIAMAT: "Goddess's 5th, 2637. My name's Tai -- T, A, I," she responds firmly, taking another step after the woman and watching her a little excitedly.

JETMODE: * The woman seems slightly unnerved by the enthusiastic scrutiny, but she promptly turns to the shelves, rapidly divining the records for her year and month. Her gaze flicks quietly over the parchment. "Well," she says finally, sounding surprised. "It says here that a child by that name was born on that date and blessed here ... but they moved on shortly afterward. Apparently they were originally from Ocala." She looks at Tai, arching a brow.

TIAMAT: "Ocala?" Tai repeats, looking a little surprised. "Er -- are there any names or anything?" She peers at the book, apparently quashing the urge to look over the woman's shoulders at the text.

JETMODE: * The woman looks at the page again, frowning slightly. "One Mahern Jorias and one Lilane Jorias. Those, are the names listed as father and mother, respectively." She glances at Tai again. "I'm afraid that's all the information it has ..."

TIAMAT: * Tai's eyes go wide and she claps her hands together happily. "Wow, thank you! This is great --" She turns abruptly and trots toward the door, glancing back with a wave as she steps out into the hallway. "Thanks again!"

JETMODE: * The woman watches her go with a wave, and returns the files where they belong, frowning slightly. Whatever thought she had, however, she shrugs it away and returns to her desk -- and her paperwork.

TIAMAT: * Tai practically skips out of the temple -- she waves cheerfully to the acolyte who greeted her -- and back to Glenn's mansion. She pauses thoughtfully as she pushes the door open, then heads directly back to the senator's office.

JETMODE: * Kain is gone, but Luke is still present in the office, chatting in low tones with Glenn. He glances back in surprise at her arrival, then smiles faintly. "Good afternoon, miss Tai. I see you're in good spirits."

TIAMAT: * Glenn pauses the conversation abruptly, looking up from what appears to be a map he had laid out on his desk that he and Luke were studying. "Ah, Tai -- Luke told me you may have found something on your family. Any luck?" Tai beams and waves the letter in front of them for a moment. "I went to the temple, like the letter said -- they keep records of everyone blessed there! They looked under my first name and my birthday -- my adoptive family knew that from when I was left with them -- and we found a family that was traveling through Kamaria and had a child with my exact name and birth date!"

JETMODE: * Luke's brows lift in silent surprise, then he forces a quick smile, glancing at Glenn. "That's good news," he says, then tilts his head curiously. "Are they still alive? Living here in the city?"

TIAMAT: * Glenn exchanges a look with Luke, though he's smiling much more genuinely than his companion. Tai shifts a little, looking suddenly nervous. "Well, no -- not in Kamaria, that is. I don't know if they're alive -- the text said they were from Ocala." She hesitates here, and Glenn blinks. "Ocala? That's quite a ways away, my dear..."

JETMODE: * Luke nods in agreement, smiling wanly. "It's quite remarkable that travelers took the time to bless a child in a church so far from home." He glances at Glenn for support, much as he hopes his suspicions are mistaken. As unlikely as the story is, it's almost as hard to believe someone would try to lead her astray.

TIAMAT: "But..." Tai starts, face falling slightly, but Glenn smiles kindly at her. "Luke is only trying to be reasonable, miss -- neither of us would like to see you get your hopes up only to be disappointed in the end." Tai already seems a little disappointed, however. "But...what do you mean? This is worth looking into, isn't it? This is my family we're talking about!"

JETMODE: "Well, of course it is, miss," Luke says hurriedly. "We aren't denying it's important -- but it might be best to look into it, you see?" He falls silent, scratching the back of his head, apparently worried he's spoken out of turn.

TIAMAT: "Look in to it?" Tai asks hesitantly. Glenn glances at Luke, then back at the girl. "Certainly. I have been to Ocala, know some of the people who reside there -- it's one of the senators' hometowns, after all. I could send a message along to have someone look into it for us. Did you find out the names of the couple whose child was blessed at the temple?" "Yes.." Tai starts, still sounding a little wary. "But...not to sound ungrateful, sir, but how long will this take?"

JETMODE: "We could have a message there and a reply back long before you could reach Ocala by foot," Luke volunteers, smiling faintly. "That is, if Lord Glenn doesn't mind sparing a flier for the task." He glances sideways at Glenn, again uncertain.

TIAMAT: * Glenn nods in approval. "Of course. If you could, just leave the names of the couple with me and I'll write a letter to one of my correspondents. We can have it off tomorrow morning and back within just a few weeks." Tai glances between the two of them, then nods. "All right...I suppose that sounds reasonable. Thank you, Lord Glenn." The senator inclines his head, smiling faintly. "Of course, m'lady. If you could excuse us for a few minutes? I need to be giving Luke the last of his orders for his latest assignment, and then I will meet with you to arrange that letter." Tai nods and starts for the door, glancing back at the elf. "You're leaving again? So soon?"

JETMODE: "Yes, indeed, miss," Luke says with a grin. "No rest for the weary, and all that." He inclines his head. "Not to worry, I'll be back before you realize I'm gone -- Kain can keep you company 'til then."

TIAMAT: "I would enjoy that," Tai replies with a smile, then blushes faintly when she realizes what she said and hurries out of the room.

JETMODE: * A day or two later, Kain arrives at Glenn's estate as promised, summoned by Glenn and sent by his father. His mode is somewhat grouchy, as it usually is when he suspects he's being sent on something work-related, and in this case he was woken early for the task. He pauses at the door, blinking a little groggily, then lifts his hand to knock, stretching for a long moment afterward.

TIAMAT: * There's a brief pause before the door swings open to reveal a much more awake looking Tai, dressed, unusually, in her traveler’s gear. She smiles brightly when she sees Kain, stepping aside to let him through. "Good morning, Kain! I'm glad you got here so quickly, Lord Glenn wants us to leave soon."

JETMODE: * Kain gives her a deeply suspicious look, frowning as he steps into the building. "Leave? Where are we going?" He scowls in the direction of Glenn's study, suspecting he's been set up yet again. "Crap, no wonder he made one of the servants handle my saddlebags."

TIAMAT: * Tai closes the door behind Kain, then trots quickly back toward the study, glancing over her shoulder toward Kain to make sure he's following. "Neenah! Though I don't know for what yet, he wanted us both here to brief us on the mission."

JETMODE: * Kain's expression becomes remarkably dour for a moment, but he straightens and shrugs, sticking his hands behind his head. "They could just tell me when they're sending me off to the far reaches," he mutters, sauntering after her and making no particular effort to keep up. "That's where you're from, right?" he adds after a moment.

TIAMAT: * Tai pauses outside the study door, nodding as she waits for Kain to catch up. "All my family is still there. Lord Glenn said I could visit them while we're there -- it will be really nice to see them again. And you can meet them, too!" She grins again as Kain approaches, then knocks politely on the door.

JETMODE: * Kain looks doubtful for a moment, then he shrugs. "Yeah, sure. Might as well. Has he said anything about what we'll be doing?" He peers at the study door for a moment, then shrugs again. "Guess it doesn't matter -- gets me out of the house."

TIAMAT: "Come in!" calls a familiar voice from within the study, and Tai, about to reply to Kain, pauses and instead pushes the door open, leading the way inside. Glenn is seated at his desk, leaning back in his chair and reading through what appears to be a letter. He glances up when the two enter, smoothing the letter down on his desk as he leans forward. "Master Kain. Didn't get you up too early, did I?"

JETMODE: * Kain gives him a very bland stare, stretching once more before flopping into a chair. "So, er, we're going to Neenah?" he says, scratching his cheek. "Care to fill us in, as long you've got your captive audience?" He does make a brave attempt not to sound too sour about it.

TIAMAT: * Glenn smiles faintly, then taps the letter on his desk. "I just received this last night from one of my correspondents -- Jarna Sommes. She has some information for me, but she doesn't have time to leave the city, and neither of us are comfortable sending it via a standard courier. I just needs you two to go pick up a package from her. Oh, and.." He picks up another scroll off his desk, this one rolled tightly and bound with his crest. "I'd like you to deliver this to her, as well. Her next assignment from me." He hands the scroll to Tai, who reaches across his desk to take it with a nod.

JETMODE: * Kain looks slightly disappointed, but he scratches the back of his head and stands again, ambling over to the desk. "So I'm just along as security detail?" he asks, suddenly cheerful. "Sounds like a walk in the park, if you ask me."

TIAMAT: * Glenn stares at him for a moment, then shrugs. "And she's going along to make sure you don't run away. I figured you two would be able to keep each other our of trouble." Tai flushes faintly, though Kain might miss it since she's still facing Glenn.

JETMODE: * Kain scowls at him. "I run before I get the job, not during it," he points out, then turns away, starting for the door. "Anything else we need to know?"

TIAMAT: * Glenn waves a hand. "Stay out of trouble, try not to be recognized. There's no rush, so I told Miss Tai she could spend a day or two visiting her family if she wishes." Tai smiles and gives a polite curtsey before turning to follow Kain toward the door.

JETMODE: "Sounds good to me," Kain answers comfortably, and he ambles out into the hall before anything else can be said. Once there, he gives another, long stretch, waiting for Tai to catch up. "We takin' horses?" he asks doubtfully, resting his hands on his hips for a moment and leaning against the railing.

TIAMAT: * Tai closes the door behind her as they exit the study, glancing at Kain doubtfully as she follows him through the hallway. "Well...er...you know I can't...really ride..."

JETMODE: * Kain frowns in thought as they continue along, hopping the last few steps and glancing back at her. "Well, a horse is definitely faster, and I guess we could double up again ..." He scratches his cheek. "I probably wouldn't run near as fast, anyway."

TIAMAT: "Well, if you don't mind..." Tai replies a little hesitantly as they approach the entrance hallway. She pauses, then stoops to pick up a couple of packs set next to the door. "Supplies from Lord Glenn."

JETMODE: "Nice of him," Kain remarks. "And, uh, I guess not. I'll go slower, and you won't strangle me, right?" He grins at her, then trots out the door to retrieve his horse, which is pacing around in the front courtyard, untied and apparently bored.

TIAMAT: * Tai blushes again, hurrying over to the horse and busying herself with hooking the packs onto the saddle to hide the redness in her face. "N-no! I won't -- I'm sorry. So, um, how long will it take to get to Neenah on horse?"

JETMODE: "Two weeks, I guess, depending." Kain ambles over to finish outfitting the horse, which gives him a long-suffering and possibly resentful stare. "Might take a little longer if we're not going at full speed." Once everything is settled in, he swings on, reaching down to offer Tai a hand up.

TIAMAT: * Tai takes his hand and pulls herself up, a bit more gracefully this time than the last, at least partially due to the fact that she's in trousers and not a skirt. She hesitates, then wraps an arm gently around Kain's waist, shifting a little awkwardly. "Is that...all right?"

JETMODE: * Kain glances back at her to make sure she's at least relatively secure, then he nods. "Yeah, just hang on, all right?" He clucks to the horse and starts out of the courtyard, waving absently to one of the stable hands as he goes.

TIAMAT: * The young lad waves cheerfully back at the pair, calling out a farewell to Tai, but she is too busy clinging to Kain to respond. After she realizes they aren't going very fast, though, she relaxes a bit, loosening her grip slightly.

JETMODE: * Kain doesn't appear to notice the change, but he does pick up the pace a bit once they've left the city, pushing the horse into a comfortable trot once they're on the road. "I know a couple good places to camp, anyway. We'll get to one of 'em a bit before sundown.. I think."

TIAMAT: * Tai nods, sitting up a little bit, though she does keep a firm hold around Kain's waist. "Heh...think we'll make it back to that tavern...what was it...The Beef and Brew?"

JETMODE: * Kain shrugs slightly. "Maybe. We'll probably go past it, anyway. It's sort of between two of the campsites." He looks around thoughtfully, then glances back at her with a grin. "They probably don't want me back in there anytime soon, anyway."

TIAMAT: * Tai blinks, then giggles. "Well, you did cause quite a bit of trouble that night, didn't you?"

JETMODE: "No more than my lowlife buddies," Kain responds comfortably, shifting off the road for a few minutes to let a wagon rumble by. "Well, they weren't so bad. Mercenaries, you know?"

TIAMAT: "Were they...good mercenaries?" Tai asks a little doubtfully, staring at a couple of the bird-like swifts accompanying the wagon as it passes.

JETMODE: "I, er, don't quite get what you mean by that," Kain says, pushing the horse back on the road. "Mercenaries get paid to do what they're hired to do. They were decent guys ... but I dunno what kind of job they were on." He pushes the horse a little faster, clucking cheerfully. "Probably just guarding a wagon, though. Most merc work is boring like that."

TIAMAT: "I see..." Tai goes silent for a moment. "Does the senate ever need mercenaries for anything?"

JETMODE: "No, the senate usually has hapless lackeys like me." Kain grins, even though she can't see it from behind him, then he shrugs. "I dunno, the senators themselves might hire them once in a while for some job or other. The actual council doesn't use them for much. It's just.. where they go to talk."

TIAMAT: * Tai nods. "We never dealt with mercenaries at all at the temple...there were always acolytes or squires or couriers to run errands or act as escorts."

JETMODE: "Yeah, makes sense." Kain shrugs. "Everybody's just trying to make a living, I guess." He glances along the road, which has seen a fairly steady stream of people traveling one direction or the other. He shakes his head slightly, wondering if there's some kind of merchant holiday he missed out on.

JETMODE: * The crowd thins out as they travel down the road, most people retreating to camps and inns by nightfall. They reach Kain's promised campsite without incident, and he ties up the horse, laying out his gear and flopping down to have a quick meal before they sleep for the night. It isn't terribly cold, so he isn't inclined to start a fire.

TIAMAT: * The day goes by in relative silence, Tai making a comment or two along the way but mostly concentrating on not falling off Kain's mount. She seems a little relieved when they stop for the evening, taking a little walk around their campsite a few times to stretch her limbs before sitting down to join her companion in meal, and, shortly afterward, sleep.

TIAMAT: * The same night that sees Tai and Kain off on their trip to Neenah also finds Glenn Greenstone in The Silent Knight, one of smaller taverns on the outskirts of the capitol, near the Dorgany residence. The senator is seated at a small table near the back of the room, dressed, for once, in casual wear, his hair hanging loosely and a little unkempt around his face.

JETMODE: * It isn't long before a familiar figure ambles into the tavern, also garbed in clothing that looks as if it's spent its day on the ranch. He spots Glenn almost immediately, ambling over to his table and plunking down with a grin. "Well, fancy meeting you here," says Kail, waving absently to one of the wait staff to have his usual brought over.

TIAMAT: * Glenn returns the grin. "Fancy? You're not looking fancy at all at the moment, good sir.." He pauses as the waitress brings Kail's drink, giving a little half-bow as she backs away.

JETMODE: * Kail shrugs, snagging his drink and taking a long slug of it. "No grubbier than you, I suppose," he replies, setting the mug down and grinning again. "Quite a time we've been having," he remarks, arching a brow. "All your helpers off running errands?"

TIAMAT: * Glenn raises his mug in a mock toast to Kail before taking a long draught of his own. "Most of 'em, yup. Sent Luke off to Winter Garden a few days ago, and your son left just this morning for Neenah with my newest girl. Very eager to please, she is, and even more so to be heading back to her hometown."

JETMODE: "She's the one that was with you at the council meeting?" Kail pauses, staring down into his mug for a moment in thought. "She's from Neenah, then?" He frowns, as if he's trying to make this fit with whatever it is he's thinking. "I wouldn't have guessed."

TIAMAT: * Glenn arches an eyebrow curiously. "I wouldn't have asked you to. Kain actually brought her back from partway up the highway, last time he tried to take off. Said she was all by herself, traveling back here." He pauses here, studying his friend for a moment.

JETMODE: * Kail scratches his cheek, still frowning, then shrugs comfortably. "Well, I wasn't sure, since I only saw her the once, but --" He folds his hands in front of him, arching a brow at his friend. "She looks familiar, Glenn, that's all."

TIAMAT: * Glenn grins faintly. "Ever been to Neenah? Maybe you saw her there...don't think she was ever outside of the holy city till now, though. If you'd like to see her, I could send her over to your estate once she and Kain get back...I'm sure she'd be more than happy to do some errands for you, for a change, especially if she were paired up with Kain for any of them. She seems rather fond of him."

JETMODE: * Kail shakes his head. "No, that's not really what I mean --" His gaze drifts off for a moment, unusually weary and a little moody. "She looks like Pearl, Glenn." He shakes his head. "That's all I can really say -- it just made me think." He appears to be continuing to think, however.

TIAMAT: "Oh," Glenn says abruptly. He opens his mouth for a moment, then closes it, as if uncertain what to say. "Er...I'm sorry," he offers after a moment, looking genuinely apologetic.

JETMODE: "Oh, no. It's not a problem.." Kail shakes his head, brow still furrowed. "Maybe ... but it seems unlikely ..." He scratches his cheek, straightening and taking hold of his mug again, then looks at Glenn, arching a brow. "You know I had a daughter?"

TIAMAT: * Glenn watches Kail over his own mug as he takes a drink, setting the goblet back down to the table slowly. "I seem to recall...isn't that how Pearl died? Complications during childbirth? And then the baby died a few days later?"

JETMODE: * Kail smiles wryly, taking a long swig of his drink. "That's the story." He sets down his mug -- now empty -- and grins across the table at Glenn. "The child ... didn't actually die." The grin turns someone ironic, and he shakes his head. "She.. was taken. The circumstances were complicated, so I told everyone she died as well."

TIAMAT: * Glenn looks surprised, raising both his eyebrows before blinking. "Taken? Like...kidnapped taken? But then...why didn't you tell anyone the truth?"

JETMODE: "As I said, the circumstances were complicated." His expression becomes somewhat moody again. "I .. had to let her be taken." He waves for another drink, which is brought to him before he speaks again. "Had something to do with an old artifact that's been handed down in the family."

TIAMAT: "I...see," Glenn says quietly, and though he doesn't seem to really see at all, he doesn’t question his friend further. "That must've been horrible, though...losing a wife and a daughter at the same time? But then, your daughter could still be..." He trails off, looking suddenly mildly alarmed. "You don't think Tai is.."

JETMODE: "I don't know, Glenn. I really.." He stares at his drink for a long moment, then looks up sharply. "What did you say her name was?" His expression is somewhat alarmed. "Tai? Are you sure?"

TIAMAT: "Pretty sure, Kail," Glenn replies, looking slightly unnerved. "Tai Zedekiah. She's only been sleeping in my house for about a month, now, while she.." He trails off for a moment, a sort of distant look crossing his face before he continues. "...looks for her family..."

JETMODE: * Kail shakes his head, expression growing momentarily blank. "It could be her.. it ... but I shouldn't ..." He chuckles, reaching up to scratch his head. "Perhaps ... I should talk to her when she returns." His face clouds, but he shakes his head. "If she's family, she should be with us."

TIAMAT: * Glenn nods quickly. "Yeah, she should be. She'd be thrilled...ecstatic...she left Neenah to find her real family." He pauses, then smiles faintly. "Would be amazing if it really were her. I hope it is, for her sake, and yours."

JETMODE: "Things could get a little complicated, but.. yes." He grins, lifting his mug once before he takes another drink. "Well, I guess we have some time to stew over it until they get back." He heaves a sign. "Neenah. That's quite a walk."

TIAMAT: * Glenn grins faintly. "Indeed. Though I believe they were intent on riding, so that would cut down at least a bit of their time away." He pauses. "I'll make sure to send her over as soon as they're back, Kail."

JETMODE: "Please do." Kail seems to have recovered much of his good cheer, finishing off his second drink and setting the mug down. He looks at it thoughtfully, then shakes his head. "I probably shouldn't have any more. They do worry if I'm not up in the mornings."

TIAMAT: * Glenn utters a snort of laughter. "You could spend the night at my place, if you like. Mine know better than to ask when they know I've been out. Then again, if you don't show back up at home, they may send out a search party, eh?"

JETMODE: "They do fuss." He grins dryly. "But thanks for the offer." He pauses and gets to his feet, shaking his head. "I may have to turn in, old friend. I have a lot to think about."

TIAMAT: * Glenn stands with a nod. "Of course, of course...don't worry about the drinks, I've got it, okay?" He pulls out a small pouch of gold, leaving several coins on the table. He returns the pouch to his belt, then offers Kail his hand. "I hope this all works itself out, Kail. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help, yeah?"

JETMODE: "Absolutely." Kail takes his hand and shakes it with a grin. "I know where to go if I need someone to watch my back." He laughs, releasing him, then turns to go, waving over his shoulder. "I'll see you around, Glenn."

TIAMAT: * Glenn waves back as Kail exits the tavern, glancing down at the table to take his mug and finish its contents with a single last draught before following his friend out into the darkening streets.
