JENNA: * Jo nods agreeably, trotting lightly after him and feeling more than a little concern at the conditions of the journey. She decides to pretend she's unaffected, however, sticking her hands behind her head and letting Shane lead the way back. It seems she's forgotten their earlier arguing entirely. JUSTIN: * Shane leads the way back to the inn in silence, concentrating on the mission ahead of them -- at least partly. Unlike Jo, their argument, as well as everything leading up to it, is still fresh in his mind. It's only for the sake of their job that he doesn't bring it up again right away. "You can wait here, if you want. I'll go get our things." He turns her a brief look, stepping to the door and pushing his way in without waiting for a response. JENNA: * Jo stops, shrugging, and seats herself on the steps to wait. If he's still feeling cranky, the less time spent around him the better. She stretches her feet out in front of her, watching people pass by -- most of them residents, she assumes. After a few minutes, she feels a faint rumble of hunger and grimaces, waiting for Shane's return with a little more impatience. JUSTIN: * Shane isn't gone long, practically jogging all the way to their room and packing things up quickly. He locks the door on his way out and makes his way back down to the ground floor. He almost trips over Jo again on his way out the front door, but manages to stop himself, hopping down beside her and handing her bag over. "Whenever you're ready." JENNA: * Jo takes the bag and gets to her feet immediately, reaching for her jerky before remembering they're about to embark on a journey by air. With a faint sigh, she puts it away again and slings the pack over her back. "The sooner the better." She pauses, waiting for Shane to take the lead again, as she isn't sure where the airships are. JUSTIN: * Shane heads out from the inn, knowing exactly where to go, even though he's rarely had reason to visit to the airdocks in the past. He turns his head once to check on Jo's progress, scanning her face for any sign of weakening, but he tries not to be obvious about it. The trip to the airships doesn't take long at all, as it is fairly close to the district, and he immediately heads to the nearest ticket booth. JENNA: * Jo comes up behind him, looking curiously at the large machines in an attempt to distract herself from the border of sky that's gotten closer as they walked. She considers fighting Shane for the right to pay for their passage, but leaving him alone seems to have worked so far, and she doesn't really want to resume any hostilities. JUSTIN: * Shane is appreciative of her silence, even if he doesn't say anything about it. That would rather defeat the purpose, as it would be grounds to start a discussion, or possibly a fight. He purchases their tickets and turns around to hand one to Jo. "The flight is leaving soon, we should get on board right away." He motions toward the ship they'll be taking, and then makes for the boarding gates. JENNA: * Jo nods and continues following him, yawning slightly as they head for the gates. It's likely to be a very boring job if he won't talk to her, but it's still preferable to a squabble. She keeps her gaze fixed on the ground as they move, as the ground is solid and less likely to betray her. Even if it is floating in midair. JUSTIN: * Shane eyes the long pier leading out to the ship's entrance hatch. There are low walls -- about waist high -- that turn into wrought iron fencing, that arches up and over their heads by at least a couple meters. The pier itself is wide enough for four people to walk side by side, and juts out from the main island of rock that is Juno. It provides a nice view, at least in his opinion. But he's worried Jo won't quite agree. "Jo, come here." He turns to the side, waving for her to step by him. "You go first, I'll be right behind you. Just concentrate on the pier, okay? Don't look over the walls." JENNA: * Jo looks up at him irritably for a moment. "I wasn't really planning to ...." She does however, move on ahead, keeping her gaze, even as before, locked on the ground just in front of her, occasionally flicking her eyes up to see if they're any closer to their destination. She notices her breathing getting a little quicker and stops for a moment, forcing herself to slow it down. JUSTIN: * Shane keeps a careful eye on her, intending to turn around and drag her back to the stables at the first sign of hysterics. So far, she's handling herself better than he would have expected, which could be a good sign for the trip. The walk is deceptively long, due to Jo's carefully plodding speed, but they finally reach the ship without any unfortunate fainting or panic attacks. He hands his ticket to the waiting attendant, and they are directed to their seats toward the middle of the craft. JENNA: * Jo relaxes somewhat as they step on board, the walls of the craft shielding her, for the most part, from the sight of the sky. She isn't terribly easy with the hollow sound of the deck beneath her feet, but she stubbornly keeps from reacting to it, though she is somewhat pale as she takes her seat. She looks around warily at the other passengers, gaze flinching away from windows as it drifts past. JUSTIN: * Shane's ticket technically has him listed for the aisle seat, but he directs Jo to it anyway, almost pressing her down into it. "Don't stare so much, you're going to make people nervous." He mutters, sidling past her to take the seat by the window. "How are you feeling?" JENNA: * Jo gives him another irritable look, ignoring the admonition. "I'm fine." She hasn't been flying before, so she isn't sure how long that's going to last, but she doesn't bother sharing this information with Shane. "Any idea how long the flight's going to take?" JUSTIN: * Shane shrugs lightly, giving a look out the window. Nobody else is boarding, so he assumes they'll be moving off soon. "A few hours, give or take. I've never actually made the trip." He makes himself comfortable in his chair, moving his hat from his head to his lap. "Just relax, try to take a nap or something. You probably won't even notice we're moving after the initial departure." JENNA: * Jo looks at him sideways and shrugs. "I guess." She attempts to stretch her feet out in front of her, but she's stopped by the chair in front of her, and she draws them back, sighing a little. "Well, we'll still get back before too late." She rubs her stomach, deciding there might be enough time to eat while they're in Einbroch before she has to board the airship again. JUSTIN: * Shane nods silently, turning to look out the window again. A few minutes later, one of the attendants passes by, announcing loudly that the ship will be departing in a matter of minutes, and nobody is to leave their seats until they've levelled at flying altitude. Shane leans over to Jo and gives her a stern look. "Listen to me, Jo. There will be some shaking and rumbling while the ship gains altitude. It's perfectly natural, and it doesn't mean anything is wrong. Okay?" JENNA: * Jo glares at him. "All right, already." She then turns her gaze to the floor, feeling much put-upon. She's been all right so far, and she feels the extra lectures are entirely unjustified. "You want to tie me up and gag me as long as we're at it?" JUSTIN: * Shane gives her an unamused look. "Would you prefer I let you be surprised? I can do that." He leans back in his chair, and even as he does so, the first rumbling of the engines begins to pick up, and the initial lurch of forward momentum pushes them against the cushions of their chairs. JENNA: * The sudden movement crushes Jo's snarled retort before it leaves her throat, and she swallows it down with a sudden surge of unexpected terror. She manages to keep from vocalizing any of this, but her face goes several shades paler, and she clamps her hands on her knees, staring grimly at the floor. JUSTIN: * Shane looks completely casual as the ship continues to gain altitude, the floor rattling under their feet, the seats vibrating, and the pressure pushing against them steadily increasing. He glances over at Jo, honestly surprised that she hasn't complained yet. "It'll just be another few minutes." He volunteers, turning to watch the clouds steaming by the window as they break through them. JENNA: * The only sound that escapes Jo's throat in response to this is a very faint whimper, and she squeezes her eyes shut, as the sight of the floor shaking under her feet is doing very little to increase her confidence. She starts concentrating on her breathing, as it's becoming rapid and shallow again. JUSTIN: * Just as promised, the ship eventually begins levelling out, the engines calming some, and the pressure lifting. The rattling disappears, and after a few minutes, things are smooth again. Shane looks over at Jo and cracks a small smile. "See? Nothing to worry about." JENNA: * Jo doesn't look at him, nor does she particularly trust herself to speak, giving her head a short, sharp jerk -- hopefully it comes off as a nod. Her hands, by now white-knuckled, slowly relax on her knees, and her breathing eases slightly as she attempts to unknot her muscles. JUSTIN: * Shane sighs quietly, leaning back in his chair and stretching a bit. "Well, it's going to be a relatively boring couple of hours, so don't be surprised if I fall asleep." He takes his cap and drapes it over his face, folding his arms over his chest to rest. JENNA: * Jo utters a scarcely audible, "Okay," finally feeling normal enough that she can look around again. She takes a deep breath, making an attempt to relax by sizing up marks, though she's careful enough not to let Shane catch on to it. By the time an hour has passed, she's almost completely calm -- at least until the pilot's voice comes over again and mentions something about 'turbulence,' which does not sound promising at all. Her fears are confirmed a few minutes later when the airship begins to pitch slightly, floor rattling under her feet. All her work at remaining calm vanishes in a split second, and she lurches sideways, catching hold of Shane's arm (as it's the first thing she encounters) and clinging to him. After a moment more, she turns in her seat to bury her face against him with a small, frightened sound. JUSTIN: * Shane isn't the least bit bothered by the turbulence, as it's rare for a ship not to encounter any during the course of a trip, even a short one. However, he manages to forget about how Jo might take the news, and doesn't even look over at her when the ship begins to quake -- that is, at least until she suddenly attempts to burrow into him. He lets out a startled sound, turning toward her with widened eyes. "What are you doing?!" He hisses, and starts to pry her from him, going very red in the face as he remembers the last time she decided to randomly launch herself at him. His memory then reminds him of her phobia, belatedly, and a very pained expression takes over his visage, his hands ceasing their attempts to remove her with some reluctance. "Jo, it's okay! It's just some choppy wind, that's all -- we'll be through it in a couple minutes, everything will be fine." JENNA: * Jo nods -- mostly to indicate she's heard him -- but she doesn't let go of him, tightening her grip at a particularly rough jolt. Instead, once again, she focuses on keeping her breathing steady, feeling like a fool, but far too terrified to do anything about it. JUSTIN: * Shane looks around desperately, not sure what he hopes to find. Anything to calm Jo down, and get her back in her seat... but apparently he is the only thing available. This doesn't bring him any comfort -- even less, because he now feels obligated to do something about it, inspite of his own discomfort. "Jo, you worry too much..." He pats her warily on the back, gently, almost afraid of the contact. JENNA: * Jo shakes her head, still not quite able to form actual words, and she gives a low shudder. Clearly, she will not be moved. After another moment, however, she forces herself to draw a deep breath and speak. "Please," she says weakly, voice muffled but still pleading. "Don't make me move." JUSTIN: * Shane looks particularly dismayed, and also feels rather guilty at being so selfish. He's supposed to be a protector, after all, and she needs protection -- even if her fear is irrational. "O-okay, okay... It's all right, I won't." He pets at her back soothingly, hoping she won't notice his own nervous jitteriness. "It'll be over soon, don't worry." JENNA: * His assurance seems to soothe her somewhat, and her breathing becomes easier as the flight continues. Her grip also relaxes, though she doesn't let go of him or lift her head until the airship has docked and the call is going out for passengers to leave the ship in an orderly manner. JUSTIN: * Shane is almost as relieved as Jo when the call comes to return to solid ground again. He volunteers to carry both of their packs, regardless of whether Jo agrees or not, and gently gets her to her feet and moving down the center aisle. "Back on the earth again, Jo. Let's see to this job." JENNA: * Jo nods, scrubbing exhaustedly at her face as they exit the ship. Once they've gotten to the streets of the city, she's largely recovered, though her legs are still shaky, and she seems perfectly willing to let Shane lead the way. She peers around the city as they walk, frowning at the heavy smell of smog in the air. She almost comments, but decides she's likely to just get yelled at after her behavior on the airship. JUSTIN: * Shane snags the small scrap with the address from his pocket, and gives it a quick look as they walk. After a few minutes, however, it is clear he isn't going to find the house on his own. "Hm. Let's find a shop and get directions, this town is all over the place..." He stops and turns around in a circle, seeing if there are any tell-tale signs indicating a place of business. JENNA: * Jo's gaze flicks from building to building, and she finally points to one that has a grubby sign hanging in front of it -- it's not totally clear what it deals in, but it seems to be some kind of trader. "That place.. maybe." She starts for it, still feeling weary. JUSTIN: * Shane turns and gives the sign a quick look before following after her. "As good a guess as any, anyway." He comes up along side her, watching her carefully. "You, uh... want to rest for a bit before we go to the house?" JENNA: * Jo shakes her head. "I'm fine. I'll be better if I keep moving." She pushes the door open and steps inside, peering around the small, musty shop. At first she doesn't see anyone working there, but just as she's about to call for assistance, a figure shifts behind the counter, leaning over and watching them boredly. "Can I help you with anything?" he asks. JUSTIN: * Shane's attention leaves Jo with a start, and he quickly steps toward the front counter, holding up his slip of paper. "Ah -- yes, we're in town on a job, and we need directions to this address..." He hands the paper out to the shopkeeper, looking unusually jittery. Perhaps it's left over from the flight. JENNA: * The shopkeeper takes the paper and looks it over idly. "Ah, yeah." He straightens, gesturing vaguely as he gives the directions. "Once you're outta here, just keep going straight a piece. Hang a left after four or so blocks, then go right until you're past the inn.. should be around there." He shrugs, handing the paper back. JUSTIN: "Thank you..." Shane takes the paper back, tucking it into his breast pocket and hoping the "or so" was just tagged on by force of habit. He turns his head to look at Jo again, clearing his throat quietly and stepping to join her. "Shall we, then?" He motions for her to go on ahead, moving to open the door for her. JENNA: * Jo nods, stepping out of the store and back into the smog with a grimace. She lifts one hand to cover her nose and mouth before setting off in the direction the shopkeeper indicated. "I don't really want to come back here again," she says, voice muffled. JUSTIN: * Shane looks up at her in surprise, his mind wandering around inside his own head. "Hm? Why's that?" Apparently he's been distracted enough not to even notice. He looks around, back at her once, and then continues walking down the street, keeping track of the blocks. JENNA: "It smells," she says, opting for pulling her tunic up over her nose and mouth next. That and the steel city isn't particularly attractive -- as if the smog has coated everything inside it. She continues walking, keeping her own count as she eyes the abandoned-seeming buildings. The streets are quiet as well, few people, it seems, venturing outside at any time of day. JUSTIN: * Shane looks at her quizically, then takes a few sniffs to test the atmosphere. "Oh, that --" He coughs once, but he otherwise seems unaffected. "That's just the industry, that's all. Industrial city, you know?" He glancs around, eyeing tall smoke stacks in the distance. "Juno gets all its iron and steel from Einbroch, you know that? Lots of refined goods, too." As always, sharing useless trivia seems to lift Shane's spirits a bit, and he looks a little less stressed than he did just a minute ago. He points their turn out as they approach, picking up his pace a bit. JENNA: * Jo shakes her head, hurrying a bit as they go. "It still smells," she says quietly, rounding the bend without further comment and watching for their next turn. "Hope the family doesn't.. kick us out or anything. I don't know how happy they're gonna be." JUSTIN: "Oh, it doesn't matter." Shane steers around the first right turn, and keeps his eyes peeled for this inn they're supposed to find. "We're just the messengers, after all. Besides, we don't even need to wait around long enough for them to read the -- oh. Oh, that's right. You're /curious/, aren't you?" He gives her a smirk and a disapproving shake of his head. JENNA: * She gives him a faintly annoyed look. "Well, they might have a message to take back, right?" Finally giving up on keeping the smog from her nose and mouth, she drops her tunic, pointing ahead slightly where lights indicate a business. "Besides.. it's a long-standing tradition among angry humans to shoot the messenger." JUSTIN: * Shane folds his arms behind him, giving the building a look, and then turning his eyes to seek out their target destination. "Well, then you can be the one to give them the will, and I'll guard the door. How does that sound?" He smiles sweetly at her, then shrugs his shoulders. "And if they do have a message, they can pay us to take it. Wasn't part of our contract to bring back a reply." JENNA: * Jo gives him a long look, then utters a faint snort. "You've learned the mercenary shtick pretty well, I have to admit. Whatever you want." She gives a long stretch, yawning, and quickens her pace a little as the inn's lights grow closer. For a moment, she thinks longingly of curling up under the covers of a bed, then sighs as she recalls that won't be happening until another trip on that accursed airship. JUSTIN: * Shane frowns darkly, some of his mood deteriorating again at the insinuation. "It's nothing like that at all! I just don't think we should get ourselves anymore involved in their domestic disputes than we already are. Delivering a an item for payment is one thing, I've no interest in becoming their personal telegram service." He recrosses his arms over his chest, and for a moment almost forgets to keep an eye out for the house. He notices the paper sticking out of his shirt pocket, however, and straightens, fishing it out. JENNA: "Well, we have to go back anyway, so I don't really see the problem." Jo shrugs, watching him absently as he looks over the paper. "How close are we?" she asks, glancing around the streets, then continues with her earlier statement. "If he wants us to take another message back, he can just mail it." JUSTIN: * Shane slides her a disgruntled look, briefly, before turning back to his paper. "You're missing the point. It's really beneath our concern. Unless, as I said, they're willing to pay -- for something they can easily do themselves for cheaper. I'm certain the old man only wanted us to take the will personally so someone could bear witness to whatever reaction his family has, and relate it to him. Something I'll leave up to you, as you're the curious one." He sighs quietly, tucking the paper away and hopping off the sidewalk to cross the dusty street toward one of the dozen identical buildings lining it. JENNA: * Jo makes a disgruntled noise, digging in her pouch for the will itself, though she doesn't remove it, instead wrapping her fingers briefly around the paper. "It's not like we're hurting for money.." she mutters, following him until he stops in front of one of the buildings. She tilts her head. "This is it, then?" JUSTIN: "Look, if you want to be their singing telegram that bad, then by all means -- feel free. Just don't tell me anything about it." Shane removes his hat, smoothing his hair, and then replaces it before walking up to the door and giving a sharp series of knocks. "Yes, this is it. You have the will ready?" JENNA: * Jo glares at him a moment, stalking up beside him to shove him out of the way. "If you don't want anything to do with it, then /move/." She manages to straighten just as the door opens, revealing a harried-looking woman with her husband trailing behind her. She glares at the two suspiciously, hands on hips. "And what in the hell do you want?" Jo blinks, then shrugs, fishing in her pouch and withdrawing the will. "We were asked to deliver this," she explains as the woman snatches it from her hand. JUSTIN: * Shane nearly falls off the short crop of steps that lead up to the door, looking fairly suspicious as he wobbles to regain his balance. He snorts none too quietly -- at both the woman and Jo -- and hops quickly back down to the walk before turning to wait, arms crossing tightly over his chest. For a moment, he idly wonders if they'll recognize him. It's been several months since they purchased his house, and not everyone has his paranormally good memory. JENNA: * The woman glances at them both suspiciously once more, then turns her gaze to the paper, expression turning to one of deepening dislike. "Oy!" she roars finally, whirling on her husband. "It's from your worthless father -- says we're cut out of his inheritance." This fact, however, doesn't seem to bother her. "I thought you said he'd stop bothering us once we packed him away to Juno!" The man backs away a step, murmuring a feeble protest, and Jo's eyebrows shoot nearly up into her hair, polite disinterest nearly giving way to amusement. JUSTIN: * Shane taps a booted foot against the pavement with quickly increasing impatience, staring quite decidedly at the side of Jo's face. "We really don't need to hear all the gruesome details, miss, we're only delivering." He waits to see if Jo will openly argue this point for the chance to stick her nose where it doesn't need to be. JENNA: * The woman whirls back at the sound of his voice, apparently having forgotten they were there in the heat of her anger. "Then get the bloody hell of my doorstep, delivery boy," she bellows, and slams the door shut on them both. Jo glances at Shane, amused, and shrugs. "Interesting," she says with a grin, then hops down the steps and starts back the way they came. JUSTIN: "What?!" Shane looks after her in disbelief, rooted to his spot for a full few seconds before he jogs after her. "You put up all those arguments, and now all you say is 'interesting'? What, were you just arguing for argument's sake?" He scowls at the back of her head, arms only tightening more to keep them from flailing about in frustration. JENNA: * Jo glances back at him with a grin, laying a finger slyly to the side of her nose. "I admit, if you'd kept your mouth shut, we could have seen more of the argument ... but it is interesting that the old guy was telling the truth, right?" She sticks her hands behind her head, humming cheerfully. JUSTIN: * Shane shakes his head, looking off to the side stubbornly. "It doesn't make him any less crazy. If he's like that all the time, I wouldn't want him living with me, either. That doesn't mean they put him in Juno to /die/." He picks up his pace, passing her and stomping along as fast as he can go without breaking into a jog. JENNA: * Jo, trots after him, looking interested. "Well, honestly, I wouldn't want to live with them at all." She jogs up alongside him, glancing back toward the house, which has already faded into the smog. "If they put him Juno to get rid of him, how long do you think they were planning to keep him there?" She looks forward again. JUSTIN: "He's old, he's going to die sometime, whether he's in Einbroch or Juno." Shane mutters, staring ahead irritably and letting his feet retrace the path to the docks. "If you like crazy old people so much, why don't you adopt him? I can move back into my house, and wait for you to come crawling back so I can say I told you so." JENNA: * Jo gives a low snort, glaring at him as she follows. "Right at the moment, I think he'd make much better company." She turns her gaze away, making a face. "Even that floating hunk of rock is an improvement over this hole, though." JUSTIN: * Shane smirks, refolding his arms behind himself for a moment, slowly his pace back to something closer to normal as the docks appear at the end of the current street. "You have an odd way of judging locations, Jo. There's more to a city than its altitude or smell." He turns her a brief, dismissive look. "But I don't want to retread the same arguments. Get your ticket ready, I bought round-trip." JENNA: * Jo doesn't answer, fishing in her pouch for the ticket and falling silent as a sudden dread creeps in to weigh her down. "Who cares.. I don't like it here or there," she says finally, then steels herself grimly as they approach the dock. JUSTIN: "Because you're irrational." Shane mutters, going quiet as they approach the gate and show their tickets. "I can't think of any particularly good things to say about Alberta or Morroc, or most of the other places you frequent, but that doesn't mean I'd write them off completely." He starts down the walkway to the waiting ship, a more significant crowd slowly their progress to the hatch. JENNA: "I don't particularly like those places, either," Jo growls, folding her arms around herself and keeping her gaze fixed on his back. Anyplace he is doesn't seem particularly pleasant right at the moment. She sticks close to him, however, glad the ramp at this dock starts on solid ground. JUSTIN: * Shane isn't so sure how honest that statement is, but he doesn't offer a reply in any case. The crowd eventually funnels into a single-file line, but it moves along steadily, and they're soon back inside the ship. He flops into his chair with a sigh, stretching with a look of discomfort and weariness. "I'm tempted to go straight to the inn after we get back. Let you talk to your old crazy and get the money." JENNA: "You're in on this job too," Jo says flatly, seating herself with rigid back and staring at the floor. "You're not getting out of it just because you don't like it." She glances sideways, out one of the windows, and the sight of the buildings helps her relax very slightly. JUSTIN: * Shane slouches in his chair, apparently already preparing for a nap even before they get underway. "So you can keep the money. It's not like it matters whose name is on it, anyway. Do you really need me looking over your shoulder while you collect?" JENNA: "Fine," she growls. "It's your stupid house, anyway." She stares savagely at the floor. "Or maybe you --" She breaks off abruptly as the engines roar to life, staring determinedly at the floor and clenching her arms around her stomach as her breathing threatens to speed up again. JUSTIN: "/Was/ my house. Remember?" Shane raises his voice over the engines, but his eyes remain closed, otherwise not acknowledging the racket. "I don't think I want to see what that loony has done to the place." He drapes his cap over his face again and settles into his rattling chair, even more determined to sleep now that she's given him yet another unpleasant thing to think about. JENNA: * Jo gives a sharp shudder as the airship begins to move, bending almost double in her attempts to quash the jitters that come as they begin to take off. Unfortunately, it doesn't work terribly well, and she'll be damned if she asks her companion for help with the mood he's in. She wraps her arms around her knees, shuddering again. JUSTIN: * Oblivious to his partner's pre-flight nerves, Shane rides out the quaking of the craft during the minutes it takes to reach altitude -- a process that takes considerably longer than the flight from Juno, as they are starting from ground-level. He's not able to actually nod off with all the shaking and rumbling, but he does a good job of looking it. JENNA: * As the craft rattles skyward, Jo becomes more and more panicked, wrapping her arms tighter and squeezing her eyes shut. After a particularly nasty jolt, she utters a small sob of terror, tears spilling from her eyes despite her best efforts to stop them. She continues shaking and crying even after they've leveled off, through she makes an effort to keep it as quiet as possible. Unfortunately, a whimper or two does escape her. JUSTIN: * Shane is on the verge of actually falling asleep when the strange and unexpected sound reaches his ears. As quiet as it is, it doesn't take him long to realize what it is. His eyes snap open, and he sits up straight, sliding his hat from his face to turn Jo a look that starts off angry. Unfortunately for him, he can't get anything out after he sees her, looking downright scared and miserable beside him, and his taught facial muscles go lax. "Jo..." JENNA: * She flinches at the sound of his voice, moving her head from side to side slowly and otherwise refusing to shift. It looks very much as if she's managed to convince herself that she will fall off -- or the ship will crash -- if she moves very much at all. JUSTIN: * Shane stares quietly for a moment, then reaches a hand out hesitantly. "H-hey, stop it... you're making me nervous." He tries to smile, but his face only twitches. He gently taps her on the shoulder, hoping the contact will shake her out of it. "I mean it, you're worrying me." JENNA: * Jo flinches again, but she does force herself to loosen her grip on her legs, pulling her arms stiffly up to curl against her chest, scrubbing at her eyes with one hand. She still doesn't straighten completely, however. JUSTIN: * Shane moves his hand to her chin, attempting to turn her face to look at him. "Jo, come on. Relax, okay? We made it to Einbroch all right, and we'll make it back to Juno." He keeps his voice down, leaning close to her so that no one else can hear. He doesn't want to embarrass her anymore than she probably already is. JENNA: * After some initial resistance, Jo does manage to look up, pushing herself upright with another small shudder and scrubbing at her face again. "Sorry," she mutters weakly, though she isn't completely sure what she's apologizing for. JUSTIN: * Shane feels rather lightheaded, due to the unexpected changes in his emotional state, and thought process. Looking at Jo now, he feels nearly the complete opposite of what he felt when they were still in Einbroch. It's confusing, almost unsettling. "Don't... don't be sorry." He lowers his hand from her chin, touching her shoulder again. "It's... okay. If you want to..." He trails off, not sure if offering himself as a human pillow again is particularly wise. JENNA: * Jo looks at him silently for a moment, then slowly shakes her head, turning her gaze back to the floor and resting her hands on her knees. "I'll.. be okay." She seems somewhat determined to see it through this time, rubbing her eyes again as she finally stops crying. She sucks in a deep breath, staring fixedly at the floor. JUSTIN: * Shane isn't sure he believes her, but he isn't about to press the matter -- honestly, the suggestion slipped out mostly due to desperation to calm her. "Okay... Just remember, I'm right here if you need anything. Don't worry about waking me." He settles back into his chair, placing his hat over his eyes and staring into the dark pocket. JENNA: * Jo manages to maintain her carefully crafted calm through most of the flight, largely because there's very little turbulence, and she can barely feel the movement going on. As they approach Juno, however, and begin their descent to the dock, she goes double again, shaking, and presses her forehead against her knees. Her breathing becomes rapid, but this time she does manage not to cry. JUSTIN: * Shane spends the entire flight attempting to fall asleep beneath his hat. For the most part, it appears as though he's succeeding, due to his lack of movement or noise. The reality of the situation is that he spends the majority of the trip trying to get his mind ordered, and generally failing. When the rumble of descent kicks in, he sits up and slides his hat back up onto his hat, giving a glance out the window. "Almost there, Jo." His eyes pan back around to her, and he frowns at the sight. "Hold in there." He places a hand very gently on her back for reassurance -- though he's got doubts on how reassuring it could possibly be. JENNA: * Unsurprisingly, Jo doesn't answer, nor does she particularly acknowledge the hand on her back, except, perhaps to still her shaking a little. She remains in that position for the rest of the flight, not twitching from it until the ship has stilled completely and the passengers are once again told to leave the airship. |
